  • Amazon and MGM are collaborating to develop an early version of the Poltergeist TV series.

#poltergeist #amazon #horrornews #mgm #tvseries It has been nearly a decade since the most recent installment in the Poltergeist franchise, which was the 2015 Gil Kenan-directed remake that failed to make any impact. This was released after two sequels and a TV series, but the franchise is now set for a comeback, as Amazon has acquired MGM and is planning a Poltergeist television series, according to a recent report from Variety. The series is still in early development, and no further details are available at this time. Amblin Television's Darryl Frank and Justin Falvey will executive produce the show. Poltergeist, the original horror classic, was released in 1982 and directed by Tobe Hooper. It was co-written and produced by Steven Spielberg and starred JoBeth Williams, Craig T. Nelson, and the late Heather O’Rourke. The story followed a family that was terrorized by supernatural forces in their suburban home. The original movie was followed by two sequels, Poltergeist II: The Other Side in 1986 and Poltergeist III in 1988, and a mostly forgotten remake in 2015. Additionally, there was a TV series called “Poltergeist: The Legacy,” which aired from 1996 to 1999, and it told the tale of a secret society known as the Legacy and their efforts to protect people from occult dangers. We will provide more updates on the new Poltergeist series as we get them.

  • Would you watch Sinster 3? - Scott Derrickson

#horrornews #sinster #sinster2 #scarymovies Sinister, a mainstream horror movie directed by Scott Derrickson, has garnered significant love and recognition from audiences over the past fifteen years. The film played a crucial role in establishing Blumhouse as a powerhouse in the modern horror genre and gave actor Ethan Hawke the opportunity to explore the world of horror, a genre he had not delved into before. Although a sequel was released in 2015, the franchise has been dormant since then. However, there might be a chance for Derrickson to return to the Sinister universe if given the opportunity. In anticipation of the release of V/H/S/85, a horror anthology series that premieres on Shudder tomorrow, Derrickson spoke with Inverse about his involvement in the latest installment. During the interview, he was asked whether he would be interested in returning to the Sinister franchise. While he did not give a definitive answer, he expressed a sense that there is more to explore in that universe. Derrickson's comments suggest that fans of the franchise may have something to look forward to in the future. “Possibly. It’s a really interesting world. It’s really unfortunate that Sinister 2 was a misfire, but I do think there’s a lot of things that are special about it, and I certainly think it merits more exploration if we can do it in a better way.” We can't announce with certainty that "Sinister 3" is in the works, but it's not entirely impossible. The main obstacle is that "Sinister 2" didn't perform well and received negative reviews. Compared to the original, it made far less money at the box office. "Sinister" had a budget of $3 million and made $87 million, while "Sinister 2" had a budget of $10 million and made $54 million. Another factor to consider is that director Scott Derrickson is currently busy with other projects. He recently directed the horror hit "The Black Phone," which starred Ethan Hawke. He's also working on his next film, "The Gorge," starring Miles Teller and Anya Taylor-Joy, as well as a potential sequel to "Labyrinth." If production company Blumhouse decides to move forward with "Sinister 3," Derrickson and writer C. Robert Cargill could serve as producers while another filmmaker takes the helm. Derrickson hasn't ruled out the possibility entirely. The decision is ultimately up to Jason Blum and his team.

  • Watch The IN SEARCH OF DARKNESS 1990-1994 - Trailer

#horrortrailer #insearchofdarkness #horrornews #halloween Horror fans can rejoice as the popular documentary series, In Search of Darkness, is making a comeback. This time, the production team is setting its sights on the '90s, specifically the years between 1990 and 1994. The new installment is a follow-up to the successful '80s horror documentary trilogy from CREATORVC, and the team is leaving no stone unturned in its quest to deliver a comprehensive and entertaining documentary. To ensure that horror fans have a voice in the production process, the team sought input from fans through an online survey. The survey aimed to gather insights, questions, and preferences from fans, and the response was overwhelming. The survey window closed on September 1st, so fans had to act fast to give their input. David Weiner, the writer and director of In Search of Darkness: 1990-1994, had a clear reason for choosing this project. He believes that the '90s were a decade of transition for horror, and that there is more imagination and envelope-pushing during this time than many people realize. Weiner is excited to explore this "lost" decade with the same celebratory lens as his '80s trilogy, and with the participation of favorite '90s horror screen legends. The trailer for the new installment features an impressive lineup of iconic titles, including everything from "gateway horror" to franchise behemoths. Horror fans can expect to see the direct-to-video trend as an extension of the '80s practical-effects flicks, along with changes on the big screen, such as darker socio-political subject matter, meta play, and fresh injections of neato morph effects and awkward CGI baby steps. All signs suggest that the new installment of In Search of Darkness will be an exciting and comprehensive journey for horror fans. From the input of fans to the inclusion of favorite '90s horror screen legends, it's clear that the production team is committed to delivering a documentary that will satisfy even the most discerning horror fans. We can't wait to see what else it has in store. Explore the ‘90s with Legendary Icons & Experts: After 14+ hours and the greatest lineup of’80s Horror talent ever assembled, the In Search of Darkness ‘80s Trilogy is complete. But as we all know, horror never dies... The early ‘90s represented an exciting, challenging, and evolutionary period for horror filmmaking, yet remains curiously unappreciated by many. Some call it a “lost decade” of horror. We disagree. Featuring exclusive interviews with horror film icons and experts, In Search of Darkness: 1990-1994 will dive into this amazing era to share personal and candid observations, experiences, and analysis to help deconstruct, re-contextualize, and reframe this fascinating period of time in filmmaking history -- all with the same reverence and energetic celebratory lens as the In Search of Darkness ‘80s trilogy, which was nominated for the Fangoria Chainsaw Award and two Rondo Hatton Classic Horror Awards.

In recent news, Lionsgate revealed that The Strangers reboot, which fans have been eagerly anticipating, will be a trilogy. The director of the trilogy is Renny Harlin, known for his work on Deep Blue Sea and Die Hard 2. The cast includes Madelaine Petsch from Riverdale and Froy Gutierrez from Hocus Pocus 2, portraying a couple who are targeted by enigmatic strangers and terrorized. The remake centers on a couple (Petsch and Gutierrez) who drive cross-country to begin a new life in the Pacific Northwest. When their car breaks down in Venus, Oregon, they’re forced to spend the night in a secluded Airbnb, where they are terrorized from dusk till dawn by three masked strangers. The script for the upcoming film trilogy was written by Alan R. Cohen and Alan Freedland, who are known for their work on "The Freak Brothers" and "Due Date". They have adapted the story from Bryan Bertino's 2008 home invasion classic. In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, director Harlin shared his background with the project and discussed his reasoning behind reimagining the story as a trilogy. "I didn't really know anything about it when I saw it and I just loved it. I thought it was fantastic and it's stuck in my mind as one of my favorite horror films [...] When this opportunity came to me, the idea of not doing a remake or a reboot but doing a trilogy based on the original film, I thought it was an incredible opportunity," Get ready for The Strangers: Chapter 1, coming to theaters in 2024! • Blumhouse Still Wants To Make A New FRIDAY THE 13th Movie

#fridaythe13th #jasonvoorhees #blumhouse Blumhouse’s Ryan Turek and Jason Blum want to bring Jason Voorhees back to the big screen It's been almost 15 years since a new Friday the 13th movie hit theaters, and as a fan of slasher films, I find that completely unacceptable. The delay has mostly been due to a legal dispute between the original screenwriter, Victor Miller, and director Sean Cunningham. However, with a Crystal Lake TV show in development for Peacock, it seems like things are finally changing. Blumhouse, the production company behind the successful Halloween trilogy, has expressed interest in bringing Jason Voorhees back to the big screen. Ryan Turek, a producer at Blumhouse, recently spoke with Inverse about their plans. He and head honcho Jason Blum are eager to take on the project and keep things simple. Turek stated that he hopes to make it happen and shared his thoughts on the matter. “Jason [Blum] and I are definitely in agreement that Friday the 13th is the thing we would love to get our hands on. I really want to go back to the basics. You don't need too many ingredients for a Friday the 13th film. You need summer camp, you need campers, and you need Jason Vorhees in a mask. Listen, I've gone on the record saying Halloween is the ultimate slasher film for me. That's my favorite slasher film of all time. But Friday the 13th as a franchise is one that I just bow down to. I just love everything about it. And if we were able to live in both worlds, like we do with Halloween, then to be able to live at Crystal Lake for a while would be so incredible.”. It's not the first time Turek and/or Blum have talked about targeting this franchise, but there haven't been any concrete steps taken yet. While there was some buzz about a possible Friday the 13th movie last year, it fizzled out quickly. It's hard to say if anything will come of it at this point, but with Bryan Fuller working on Crystal Lake, it feels like there's more hope than there has been in a long time. The only potential roadblock could be competition from other projects. However, given the success of the Halloween trilogy, which made almost $500 million globally, even with multiple movies being released on the same day, Blumhouse seems like a natural fit for Jason Voorhees. It's clear that there's money to be made with a new Friday the 13th movie, and eventually, it will happen. When that time comes, you can bet that Jason Blum will be on the phone making moves.
